The hearthstones were inspired by items of the same name from the pen-and-paper RPG "Exalted" and served as the basis for short exercises working with Modo's various modeling and rendering capabilities.


While not a modeling challenge, "Contemplation" served as an exercise in rendering and animating a displacement map, creating moving ripples on what is actually a smooth, low-poly surface.


The "Seduction" stone was a challenge on several fronts, including working with multiple layers within a single texture to create the opal-like streaks, and with gradients applied to incidence angles to get the purple-to-blue transition depending on direction of the light source.
